Let’s go brandon is a political slogan and meme that has gone viral. It has been embraced by conservative critics of President Joe Biden. A student advocacy group says a school district should not have banned students from wearing clothes bearing the phrase.
The chant and meme took off after NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast interviewed NASCAR driver Brandon Brown after his win at Talladega Superspeedway in 2021. It quickly became a replacement for the more vulgar “F--- Joe Biden.”
Two students are suing their school district in Michigan after it told them to stop wearing sweatshirts that bear the political slogan "Let’s go Brandon," a cryptic euphemism for a profane curse against President Joe Biden. The students say the district’s decision violates their First Amendment rights.
The phrase has become a meme, with fans even sharing TikTok videos of security guards kicking out a woman in a "Let’s Go Brandon" shirt from a Wichita Thunder game last month. But USA TODAY could not verify the claim.
FIRE's Stall says the district's argument that the phrase is vulgar and obscene misses the mark. He adds that just as many people remember Trump's "covfefe" typo turned meme, the "Let’s go Brandon" slogan will soon be indelibly imprinted on public consciousness.
